Journalist and Student Dina Ghalibaf Arrested in Tehran

Dina Ghalibaf, a journalist and student at Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University, was arrested after posting on her social media account about her sexual assault during her arrest at a metro station.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, security forces raided Dina Ghalibaf’s residence and arrested her.
As of the time of this report, detailed information regarding the reasons for the arrest, the charges, and Dina Ghalibaf’s custodial status is not available.
In her social media post from yesterday, Dina Ghalibaf wrote: “Yesterday at the Sadeghieh metro station, when I insisted on my right to use the subway until I paid the fare, I was violently taken to a room and subjected to electric shocks. I was handcuffed, and one of the officers sexually assaulted me.”
Dina Ghalibaf is an undergraduate student in political science at Shahid Beheshti University and has previously worked with ISNA and Esteghlal news agencies. She has been summoned and interrogated multiple times by security institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in recent years.
