Hengaw – Saturday, May 9, 2026

Najmeh Amini, a 23-year-old accounting student, has remained imprisoned in the women’s ward of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad for the past 98 days while facing serious charges including “moharebeh” (waging war against God) and “collaboration with Israel,” accusations that could lead to severe sentences, including the death penalty.

Based on information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Amini was violently arrested at Ferdowsi Market in Mashhad on Saturday, January 31, 2026. She is currently facing several security-related charges.

Hengaw has learned that the charges brought against her include “moharebeh,” “collaboration with Israel,” “insulting the Supreme Leader,” “sabb al-nabi” (insulting the Prophet), and “assaulting a government officer.”

Throughout her detention, Najmeh Amini has been denied access to a lawyer of her choice, raising concerns that heavy sentences may be issued against her based on forced confessions obtained under torture.
