A woman identified as Narges Mousavi has been brutally murdered by her husband in the town of Sangar, a suburb of Rasht, the capital of Gilan Province, with honor-related motives.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, June 20, 2024 (June 20, 2024), in the village of Gisavandan in the Sangar district of Rasht, a 40-year-old woman identified as Narges Mousavi was killed by her husband with honor-related motives.

The perpetrator killed his wife with multiple machete blows, and Narges's sister was also severely injured.

According to informed sources, Narges Mousavi, who is the mother of two children aged 8 and 15, had recently requested a divorce from her husband. The murderer was arrested after committing the crime and is currently detained in Lakan Prison in Rasht. He has cited honor as his motive for killing his wife.

The general criminal punitive policy of the Islamic Republic on domestic violence and femicide supports the patriarchal order. This policy, with the lack of criminalization of domestic violence, the disproportion between crime and punishment in this area, and the lack of social support for women against violence, has led to the spread and normalization of crimes against women.
