A young woman identified as Janeh Pirnezhad was murdered by her father in Salmas. The motive behind the crime has been stated as "protecting family honor."
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening of Saturday, July 27, 2024, Janeh Pirnezhad, a 25-year-old mother of two young daughters, was killed by her father in the village of "Koozarash," a suburb of Salmas, West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province. Janeh’s father suffocated her by submerging her head in a tub of water.
Hengaw's sources indicate that the perpetrator acted after a video of his daughter at home with her cousin was released. This video has been obtained by Hengaw.
It is worth noting that Janeh's husband, who works as a laborer, was not present at the time of the crime committed by her father.
Based on the statistics recorded at the Statistics and Documentation Center of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, from March 21, 2024, to the present, at least 69 women in various cities across Iran have been killed by close individuals and family members, 12 of which were stated as "honor-related" murders.
