Kamiyaran: Kurdish Environmental Activist Ismail Karimi Dies from Severe Burns

Ismail Karimi, a Kurdish environmental activist from Kamiyaran in Kurdistan Province, passed away after two days of hospitalization at Kosar Hospital in Sanandaj, due to severe burns sustained while containing a wildfire.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the morning of Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Ismail Karimi, a resident of Kamiyaran and father of two, succumbed to severe burns. He had been transferred from Kosar Hospital in Sanandaj to a medical center in Tehran the previous day after being injured while containing wildfires.

On Monday, July 22, 2024, Ismail Karimi went to the "Kanisheh" area in Kamiyaran to help contain a fire in the pastures, during which he sustained burns over 80% of his body.

According to informed sources, this environmental activist was transferred to and admitted at Kosar Hospital in Sanandaj after a significant delay.

It is worth noting that Ismail Karimi, an employee of the Kamiyaran's Natural Resources Department, had previously been actively involved in wildfire containment efforts alongside other environmental activists and local volunteer groups.
