Taha Rasulian, Artist from Piranshahr, Arrested to Serve Prison Sentence

Taha Rasulian, an artist and civil activist from Piranshahr, has been detained and transferred to Naqadeh Central Prison to serve his prison sentence. He was arrested during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement and was sentenced to seven years and ten months in prison in two separate cases.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, August 3, Taha Rasulian, an artist from Piranshahr, was summoned to the Execution of Judgments Office of this city, arrested to serve a sentence of 3 years and 7 months, and transferred to Naqadeh Central Prison.

Previously, Taha Rasulian was sentenced by Branch 1 of the Mahabad Islamic Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ojaghloo, to a total of 7 years and ten months in prison on charges such as "membership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party" and "acting against national security."

According to the law on the aggregation of sentences, the most severe punishment, which is three years and seven months of imprisonment, will be enforceable for this artist.

In another case, in May 2023, this artist was sentenced by Branch 102 of the Piranshahr Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Reza Ghahremani Sa'atloo, to three months in prison and 40 lashes on charges of "disturbing public order and peace."

Taha Rasulian was arrested in Piranshahr on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, without a judicial warrant, and then transferred to Naqadeh prison. He was eventually temporarily released on heavy bail on February 21, pending the completion of judicial proceedings.
