Prisoner Dies in Urmia Prison After Being Denied Transfer to Medical Centers

Ruhollah Mohammadi, a prisoner in the central prison of Urmia, died after being denied hospital transfer for medical treatment. He had been arrested for non-political crimes and sentenced to seven years in prison.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Ruhollah Mohammadi, a 48-year-old prisoner from Urmia, died due to lack of medical attention in the central prison of this city.

Despite the medical staff at Urmia Central Prison emphasizing the necessity of hospital transfer due to his heart condition, he was denied the transfer to medical centers.

According to informed sources, Ruhollah Mohammadi was serving the second year of his seven-year sentence in Urmia Central Prison.
