The public execution of two prisoners, arrested in the winter of 2021 on charges of murdering military personnel, was carried out on a street in Khomein County, Markazi Province.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights and as cited by Mizan, the official website of the Iranian judiciary, the death sentences of two prisoners, convicted of “participation in waging war against God (moharebeh) through shooting and disrupting public safety” and the murder of a police officer, were carried out in public on the morning of Monday, September 30, 2024, in one of the main squares of Khomein.
The two individuals were arrested on January 31, 2021, along with four others, in the provinces of Khuzestan, Lorestan, and Markazi. On January 26, 2022, they were charged with moharebeh and “corruption on earth,” with their case subsequently referred to court.
Ebrahim Ghamizi, the prosecutor of Khomein, informed state media that two of the six accused were ultimately sentenced to public execution for their involvement in the killing of Second Lieutenant Morteza Barati and for disrupting public safety. The sentences were upheld by the Supreme Court.
