Eight Kurds arrested in Sarpol-e Zahab and Kermanshah

 In continuation of the wave of arrests targeting Kurdish and Sunni individuals in Kermanshah (Kirmaşan), at least eight individuals from Sarpol-e Zahab—identified as Hamed Elyasi, Yousef Elyasi, Omar Babaei, Mohammad Azizi, Armin Moradi, Mohammad Yousefi, Komar Naderi, and Yousef Nairizi—have been detained by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.   

 According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, January 6, 2025, IRGC intelligence forces in one of the streets of Kermanshah arrested three Sunni residents of Sarpol-e Zahab: Mohammad Azizi, Mohammad Yousefi, and Armin Moradi.   

 Simultaneously, in Sarpol-e Zahab, IRGC intelligence forces raided the homes of several Sunni individuals, arresting at least five others, identified as Hamed Elyasi, Yousef Elyasi, Omar Babaei, Komar Naderi, and Yousef Nairizi, using violent measures.   

Hengaw has learned that these individuals have been transferred to the Nabi Akram IRGC detention center in Kermanshah. Through brief phone calls, they have informed their families of their detention.   

 In December 2024, at least 19 Kurdish Sunni activists from the cities of Javanrud, Paveh, and Sarpol-e Zahab were also arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with only one of them having been released so far.
