Eight more Kurds arbitrarily arrested: Ongoing crackdown continues

Following the recent arrests after the general strike in Kurdistan, eight more Kurds have been arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The individuals are: Chiako Qorbai from Sanandaj (Sine), Hassan Khalili from Sardasht, Sadeq Kurdi from Piranshahr, Mahdi Javanmardi, Farhad Zandi, Arsalan Mirki, and Farshad Seyedi from Dehgolan, and Mansour Moloudpour from Mahabad.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, January 27, 2025, Mahdi Javanmardi and Farhad Zandi, two civil activists from Dehgolan, were arrested by the Intelligence forces. On the same day, Chiako Qorbai from Sanandaj was arrested by security forces in a café on Farah Street. Meanwhile, Sadeq Kurdi, a resident of the village of “Pasveh” in Piranshahr County, was also arrested by intelligence forces. Their whereabouts remain unknown, so far.

On Sunday, January 26, 2025, Arsalan Mirki and Farshad Seyedi, two other residents of Dehgolan, were arrested by security forces in the city.

On Saturday evening, January 25, 2025, Mansour Moloudpour from Mahabad was arrested at his workplace in the city’s hospital by security forces. Following his arrest, his home was searched and inspected by the authorities.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Hassan Khalili, a retired teacher and civil activist from Sardasht, was arrested during a violent raid on his home by security forces in the presence of his family. After enduring two days of intense interrogation and psychological pressure, he was released on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

These arrests are largely connected to the general strike held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, which was organized to condemn the death sentences of Kurdish political prisoners Varisheh Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi.
