Arrests of shop owners participated in Kurdistan Strike against death sentences continue: Man detained in Sanandaj

As part of the widespread wave of arrests of Kurds for participating in the strikes across various cities in Kurdistan on January 22, in protest against the death sentences of Pakhshan Azizi and Varisheh Moradi, Kurdish labour activist, Jalil Mohammadi, was arrested by agents of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s security forces in Sanandaj. He was transferred to an undisclosed location.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Jalil Mohammadi was violently arrested at his residence by plainclothes agents of the Intelligence Department and was subsequently taken to an unknown location.
Hengaw sources report that, plainclothes agents from the Intelligence Department forcibly entered Jalil Mohammadi’s home in the Baharan neighborhood of Sanandaj. Without presenting an arrest warrant, they arrested him using violence.
It is noteworthy that Jalil Mohammadi has a prior history of arrest due to his labor-related activities.
Previously, Hengaw reported the arrest of six other individuals in the same city, including Mohammad Seif Panahi and Sina Rezaei from the shoe sellers' union, arrested in front of their shops; Mohammad Atlasi and Omid Mohammadi, 33, from the city’s bazaar; and Amjad Germakhizi and Naeem Dousti, both labor activists and members of the anti-execution campaign, all of whom were arrested by the Islamic Republic’s security forces for participating in the January 22 strikes in various cities in Kurdistan.
As of the time of writing, no detailed information is available regarding the reasons for these arrests, the charges, the location of their detention, or the fate of these Kurdish individuals.
