Bukan: Mina Soltani, mother slain Kurdish protester Shahriar Mohammadi, sentenced to imprisonment

Mina Soltani Zareh, a family member of one of Kurdistan's slain protesters, has been sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to eight months in prison and a monetary fine. She is the mother of Shahriar Mohammadi, one of the protesters killed during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mina Soltani Zareh was recently sentenced by Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court of Bukan to eight months in prison and a fine of one million tomans on charges of “propaganda against the government” and “appearing in public without hijab.” The verdict was verbally communicated to this justice-seeking mother’s lawyers.
On the evening of Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Mina Soltani Zareh was arrested at her home during a raid by government forces without being presented with any legal warrant.
After 21 days in detention, she was temporarily released on bail from Urmia prison on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Shahriar Mohammadi, a 29-year-old resident of Bukan, was killed on the night of Friday, November 18, 2022, after being directly shot by regime armed forces during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” movement in Bukan.
