Two Iranian Border Guards killed in landmine explosion near Baneh Border

Two members of Iran’s border guard unit, Mohammadreza Sedaghatpour and Ali Karimi, were killed in Baneh, near the Iran-Iraq border, following the explosion of a landmine left over from the Iran-Iraq war.

According to reports received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on the evening of Monday, April 7, 2025, when both men, originally from Ilam Province, lost their lives due to a landmine detonation along the border zone of Baneh.

Faraj Rostami, Commander of Iran’s Border Forces in Kurdistan (Sanandaj) Province, confirmed to the state-run IRNA news agency that the two personnel were killed during an active duty mission near the border.
