Landmine blast leaves Kurdish civilian severely injured

Ali Sharifi, 45, was severely injured and his vehicle completely destroyed in a landmine explosion near the village of Bikareh (Bikare) in Sarvabad (Sewlawa).

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, when a landmine detonated near the village, leaving Sharifi with serious injuries.

Informed sources stated that the explosion took place in the vicinity of an abandoned military site. Sharifi sustained extensive bodily injuries and was transferred to medical facilities for treatment, while his vehicle was completely destroyed in the blast.

Kurdistan remains one of the most heavily mine-affected regions, where uncleared minefields, remnants of the Iran–Iraq war, and ongoing mine-laying under the pretext of confronting Kurdistan’s political opposition parties continue to claim civilian lives.
