Hengaw – Thursday, May 7, 2026
A 21-year-old Kurdish man identified as Peyman Rahmanpour has been killed in a landmine explosion in the border highlands of Saqqez.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred early Thursday, May 7, 2026, when Rahmanpour lost his life after a landmine exploded in the mountainous areas surrounding Saqqez.
Sources told Hengaw that Rahmanpour, a resident of Khorkhoreh village near Saqqez, was in the highlands surrounding the village when the explosion occurred.
The blast was so severe that he was killed instantly. His body was transferred to the forensic medicine center in Saqqez for legal procedures.
Hengaw stated that the continued planting of new landmines by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), along with the failure to clear old mines from border and mountainous regions, causes the death and injury of dozens of civilians in Kurdistan every year.
