Femicide in Tehran: Soraya Bayatlu, child marriage victim, killed by husband in “Honor” attack

A woman identified as Soraya Bayatlu was brutally murdered in her sleep by her husband in Tehran. The killing was carried out under the pretext of “honor” and rooted in "suspicions of infidelity."

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, April 7, 2025, 34-year-old Soraya Bayatlu, a victim of child marriage, was killed by her husband using a blunt object while she was asleep.

The Iranian state-run Tasnim News Agency reported that the suspect, who allegedly suffers from mental health issues, fled the scene after the murder and remains at large.

According to the couple’s two children, the perpetrator—identified as Jalal Bayatlu—acted on suspicion and so-called “honor motives” in killing his wife.
