Piranshahr: Iranian soldier severely injured by landmine explosion

A soldier serving in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s border guards was seriously injured in a landmine explosion along the Piranshahr border region and was airlifted to a medical facility in Urmia for treatment.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday afternoon, May 1, 2025, a 21-year-old soldier was wounded when a landmine exploded in the mountainous border areas of Piranshahr. The blast caused severe injuries to his ankle, and his toes were amputated as a result.

Iran’s state-run Mehr News Agency confirmed the incident but did not disclose the soldier’s identity, only reporting that he was transported by helicopter to Arefian Hospital in Urmia.
