Security forces arrest child rights activist Hossein Mirbahari in Tehran

Hossein Mirbahari, a child rights activist and co-founder of the Society for the Protection of Working and Street Children, has been arrested by security forces in Tehran and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mirbahari, 58 and a resident of Pardis in Tehran Province, was detained around 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, by six plainclothes agents at his private residence.

A source close to the family confirmed that the arrest was discovered only after the family reviewed surveillance footage from their home. During the operation, security agents also confiscated personal belongings, including Mirbahari’s phone and laptop.

Hossein Mirbahari has dedicated many years to supporting marginalized and working children in Iran. He is also a co-founder of the Society for the Protection of Working and Street Children, a civil society initiative focused on child welfare and rights.

No information has been released regarding the reasons for his arrest, his current location, or any charges brought against him.
