Iranian drone strike in Kurdistan Region of Iraq kills PJAK member, injures another

A drone strike launched by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq has killed one member of the East Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK)—the armed wing of the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK)—and injured another.
According to information received by Hengaw, the strike took place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, near the village of Shiwa Gwezan in the Panjwin region. The drone targeted a Toyota Hilux vehicle, killing Simko Kobani, a member of the YRK, and wounding another whose identity has not been disclosed.
The attack, launched from Iranian territory near the border, also caused extensive environmental damage, sparking forest fires in the surrounding area.
The East Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK) later confirmed the casualties in an official statement.
