IRGC member Omar Dehqan killed in armed attack in Mahabad

Omar Dehqan, an armed IRGC member and Jash, was killed in an armed attack in Gagesh Sofla village, Mahabad County. An organization known as Xori Hiva (Sun of Hope) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Jash is a Kurdish term used to refer to local individuals who collaborate with Iranian state forces, particularly security and military forces.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Dehqan, a resident of Gagesh Sofla village, was killed in an armed attack on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 5, 2026. He had served for seven years as an armed IRGC member at the IRGC base in the village.

In an official statement claiming responsibility for the attack, Xori Hiva accused Dehqan of harassing residents of the area and said he had disregarded previous warnings issued to him.

Iranian state media and security and law enforcement agencies in Mahabad have not publicly commented on the killing.

Hours earlier, Xori Hiva also claimed responsibility for the killing of another IRGC member, Salar Rangamiz, in Sanandaj (Sine).
