Hengaw - Sunday, July 20, 2025

Simin Joghtaiy, a 20-year-old woman from the city of Taybad in Razavi Khorasan Province, was brutally tortured for a week and then murdered by her brothers in what has been described as an “honor killing.”

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Joghtaiy was beaten and tortured over the course of a week before being killed by four of her brothers, who struck her neck with a shovel, causing fatal injuries.

Sources told Hengaw that the murder occurred after the brothers suspected Simin of having a phone relationship with her boyfriend—something they considered a violation of so-called family “honor.”

Due to the severity of the torture, repeated beatings, and the fatal blow to her neck, Simin’s body was unrecognizable.

Simin was law student at Taybad Azad University.

The perpetrators were arrested following the murder. However, with the parents granting legal forgiveness (known as rezayat in Iranian law), the judicial process is now considering their release, and there is a strong possibility they may be freed in the near future.
