Sanandaj – Civil activist Qane Khateri transferred to prison to serve eight-month sentence

Qane Khateri, a 36-year-old Kurdish civil activist from Sanandaj (Sine), has been transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison to serve an eight-month prison sentence.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, July 7, 2025, Khateri was detained and transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison to begin serving his sentence.
He had previously been sentenced to eight months in prison by Branch One of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mostafa Azizi, on charges of “propaganda against the state” t through alleged cooperation with the Komala Party.
On Thursday, February 22, 2025, Khateri was released on bail of 500 million tomans after spending 15 days in detention, pending the outcome of his trial.
He was initially arrested on Thursday, February 8, 2025, by agents of the Intelligence Department without a court warrant and taken to the agency’s detention center in Sanandaj.
Khateri had also been arrested earlier on May 18, 2021, along with six other activists affiliated with the “Zhiyanawa Kurdistan” charity campaign. He was detained for 40 days and released on Thursday, May 27 of the same year, on bail, pending further legal proceedings.
In May 2022, Khateri and the six others were each sentenced to two years in prison by Branch One of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Saeedi, on charges of “collaborating with the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan.” After appealing the verdict, his sentence was reduced to 18 months. On July 3, 2022, he was arrested and transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison to serve that term.
