Iranian authorities execute five prisoners in three cities

Iranian authorities executed five prisoners in the central prisons of Isfahan, Gorgan, and Nishapur, among them a Lor and a Gilak. The men were identified as Abdol Sabzi, Taher Firoozi, Shamsollah Kheiri, Mehdi Kazemi, and Asad Shabani. They had been convicted in separate cases on charges of murder and drug-related offenses.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution of Shabani, 28, was carried out at dawn on August 25, 2025, in Nishapur Central Prison. He had been arrested five years earlier on charges of murder during a street fight.

On August 23, 2025, authorities also executed Firoozi, 31, who had been arrested five years ago on similar charges.

In a separate report, on August 21, 2025, three other prisoners were executed in Isfahan Central Prison (Dastgerd): Sabzi, 34, a Lor from Khorramabad; Kheiri, 27, a Gilak man from Qaem Shahr in Mazandaran Province; and Kazemi, 37, from Falavarjan in Isfahan Province.

Kheiri had been detained two years and seven months ago on drug-related charges. Sabzi had also been held on drug charges. Kazemi had been arrested 11 years earlier on a murder charge.

These executions have not been reported by Iranian state media, including outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
