Iran executes nine prisoners across the country

Iran has executed nine prisoners in a series of executions carried out in prisons across the country. The individuals have been identified as Karim Yousefi, Saman Barzegar, Yazdan Jozipour, Safarali Sadeghi, Nejat Yari, Manouchehr Mahaki, Houshang Amiri, Mohammadreza Madadi, and Kazem Hamidi. All had previously been sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary on charges of either premeditated murder or drug-related offenses.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Karim Yousefi, Saman Barzegar, and Yazdan Jozipour were executed at dawn on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. All three had been convicted on drug-related charges and were executed in Khaf Prison in Razavi Khorasan Province, Birjand Prison in South Khorasan Province, and Yazd Prison.

On the same day, four other prisoners were executed in the prisons of Ahvaz, Bam, Jiroft, and Neyshabur. They have been identified as Safarali Sadeghi, an Arab man from Ahvaz; Nejat Yari, from Bam in Kerman Province; Manouchehr Mahaki, from Jiroft in Kerman Province; and Houshang Amiri, 46, from Neyshabur and father of two. All four had been convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to death. Amiri had been arrested four years earlier.

Separately, two additional prisoners — Mohammadreza Madadi, 30, from Gorgan, and Kazem Hamidi, 40, a Gilak man from Amol in Mazandaran Province and father of one child — were executed on Monday morning, December 22, 2025, in Gorgan Prison.

Madadi had been arrested two years earlier on drug-related charges, while Hamidi had been detained four years earlier on charges of premeditated murder following a street altercation.

None of these executions have been announced by Iranian state media, including outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
