Five Prisoners executed in prisons of Nahavand, Birjand, Tabriz, and Mashhad

The death sentences of five prisoners—identified as Ehsan Khani, Asef Rakhshani, Yashar Lejehi, Javad Soheili, and Nader Sephedar—were carried out in recent days in the prisons of Nahavand, Birjand, Tabriz, and Mashhad. They had previously been convicted on charges of “premeditated murder” or “drug-related offenses.”

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Ehsan Khani, a Lor prisoner from Nahavand in Hamadan Province, was executed in Nahavand Central Prison. He had been arrested five years ago on murder charges stemming from a street altercation.

On the same day, the execution of Asef Rakhshani, a 28-year-old Baloch man and father of eight, was carried out in Birjand Central Prison, South Khorasan Province. According to the Haalvsh news outlet, he had been arrested two years earlier on drug-related charges. He had been transferred to solitary confinement the previous day to await execution and was denied a final family visit before his death.

Separately, at dawn on Wednesday, August 20, Yashar Lejehi, a Turkish prisoner from Tabriz, was executed in Tabriz Central Prison on charges of premeditated murder.

Earlier, on Sunday, August 16, two prisoners—Javad Soheili and Nader Sephedar—were executed in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad, after being convicted on drug-related charges.

State media, including outlets affiliated with the judiciary, have not reported on the executions of these five prisoners.
