Hengaw – Friday, August 29, 2025

The death sentences of two women—identified as Mitra Yasamani and Banoo Moghadam—were carried out this week in the central prisons of Shiraz and Zanjan. They had been sentenced to death in separate cases on charges of drug-related offenses and premeditated murder.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Banoo Moghadam, a 59-year-old Turkish woman, was executed in Abhar Prison, Zanjan Province. She had been arrested four years ago for the alleged murder of her son-in-law, whom she killed after he threatened her daughter.

Sources informed Hengaw that Moghadam had suffered from severe mental health issues for many years, and her physical and psychological condition had deteriorated sharply during imprisonment. Despite repeated medical recommendations for her transfer to specialized facilities, prison authorities denied her treatment. She was executed while in a state described as “deprived of the ability to live.”

Earlier, at dawn on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Mitra Yasamani, a Kurdish woman from Ilam, was executed in Shiraz Central Prison. She had been arrested three years earlier on drug-related charges and sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.

The executions of these two women have not been announced by Iranian state media, including outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
