Iran executes woman prisoner Sedigheh Ghorbani in Urmia Central Prison

Iranian authorities carried out the execution of Sedigheh Ghorbani, a 29-year-old Kurdish woman held in Urmia Central Prison.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution was carried out at dawn on Saturday, December 13, 2025, inside Urmia Central Prison. Ghorbani was from the village of Gug Tappeh, located in the Tanakari area of Urmia.

The Chief Justice of Urmia announced the implementation of the execution order but did not disclose the woman’s identity.

Ghorbani was detained two years earlier in connection with the killing of her stepdaughter, Ava Ghahramani, and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary of Islamic Republic of Iran on the charge of premeditated murder.

Ava Ghahramani, four years old, the daughter of Omar and Mina Hosseinzadeh from the Kotoul area of Khoy, was transferred to Motahhari Hospital in Urmia after suffering severe physical abuse by her stepmother. She remained hospitalized in the intensive care unit for 11 days before dying from severe cerebral hemorrhage.
