Iran executes three prisoners in Tabriz, Gonabad, and Shiraz prisons

Hengaw – Saturday, September 20, 2025
The death sentences of three prisoners — Ali-Mansour Vafaee, Mohammad Farshad Bourkzehi, and Mehrdad Tajik — were carried out in Tabriz, Gonabad, and Shiraz prisons. The three men had been convicted by the Iranian judiciary in separate cases on charges of “premeditated murder” or “drug-related offenses.”
Information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights confirms that on Saturday, September 20, 2025, Ali-Mansour Vafaee, 46, from Tabriz, was executed in Tabriz Central Prison. He had been arrested six years earlier in connection with a fatal altercation and was later sentenced to death.
At dawn on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Mohammad Farshad Bourkzehi (Barkazayi), a Baloch prisoner, was executed in Gonabad Central Prison, Razavi Khorasan Province. According to the Baloch news outlet Haalvsh, he was arrested four years earlier on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. His execution was carried out after he was denied a final family visit.
That same day, Mehrdad Tajik, 31, from Qaleh Hassan Khan in Tehran Province, was executed in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz. He was arrested five years ago for involvement in a fatal altercation and later sentenced to death.
The executions have not been acknowledged by Iranian state media, underscoring the lack of transparency surrounding the use of the death penalty in Iran.
