Mountaineer and environmental activist Johar Harki imprisoned to serve sentence

Johar Harki, a mountaineer, environmental activist, and cultural advocate for the Kurdish language from Oshnavieh (Shno), has been arrested and transferred to the city’s central prison to serve a ten-month sentence.
According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Harki was detained after appearing before the Enforcement Branch of the Oshnavieh Court to begin serving his sentence on Monday, October 13, 2025.
In July 2025, the Oshnavieh Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ali Ansari, sentenced him to ten months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state in favor of anti-government groups.”
Harki has previously been arrested and interrogated by security forces for his environmental and cultural activities.
