Hengaw — Saturday, November 22, 2025

Ahmad Naseri, an Arab prisoner held in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, died after prison officials denied him timely medical care and delayed his transfer to hospital.

Based on information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Naseri, 36, from Ahvaz and married with three children, died at Khomeini Hospital in Ahvaz on Saturday, November 22, 2025, after prolonged medical neglect inside Sepidar Prison.

According to informed sources, around a week before his death Naseri lost consciousness for more than three hours, yet prison guards took no action to transfer him to a medical facility.

Following repeated appeals from his family, Naseri was eventually taken to the intensive care unit of Khomeini Hospital on Monday, November 17, 2025, but the delayed treatment failed to save his life and he died there.

According to Karun Human Rights, which publishes information on violations against Arab citizens, security forces and prison officials initially claimed Naseri had committed suicide, a claim rejected by his relatives and former cellmates.

The family has also been pressured by prison authorities to drop any legal complaints regarding medical negligence.

Naseri had been arrested earlier this year on the charge of “participating in a group altercation” and transferred to Sepidar Prison.
