Former political prisoner Meysam Beigmohammadi arrested in Mazandaran

Iranian security forces arrested Meysam Beigmohammadi, a civil activist and former political prisoner from Abbasabad in Mazandaran Province, and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Beigmohammadi was detained in his home in Abbasabad on Monday evening, November 24, 2025. He is a civil activist with a BA in English literature from Allameh Tabataba’i University and an MA in music from the University of the Arts in New York.
No detailed information is currently available about the reasons for Beigmohammadi’s arrest, the charges brought against him, or his current situation.
Beigmohammadi was also sentenced in 2024 to three months in prison by the Mazandaran Revolutionary Court on the charge of “insulting the Supreme Leader” after posting an Instagram story. Following the issuance of the enforcement notice, he requested to serve the sentence using an electronic ankle monitor, and enforcement had not begun.
The activist had previously been arrested in connection with the Ashura 2009 events and was tried in a public court session. He was sentenced by Judge Salavati to one year in prison, which he fully served in Evin Prison.
