Iranian authorities execute Ali Safari and Hosseinali Montazeri in separate prisons

Iranian authorities executed Ali Safari in Bojnourd Prison and Hosseinali Montazeri in Semnan Central Prison in separate cases following convictions on charges of “premeditated murder” and “drug-related offences.”

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, officials at Bojnourd Prison in North Khorasan Province carried out Safari’s execution at dawn on Tuesday, 28 October 2025. Safari had been arrested on murder charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In a separate case, authorities at Semnan Central Prison executed Montazeri, a resident of Pakdasht near Tehran, at dawn on Monday, 27 October 2025. Montazeri had been detained on drug-related accusations and later sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.

State media, including outlets close to the judiciary, had not reported the executions.
