Sadegh Mahmoudnejad, one of the eye-injury victims of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement, has been transferred from Naqadeh Prison to the Intelligence Detention Center in Urmia for further interrogation after nearly five months in detention.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, November 10, 2025, the 35-year-old political detainee from Piranshahr was moved to the Urmia Intelligence Detention Center after 145 days in custody.

Mahmoudnejad was arrested on June 19, 2025, during the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel, by agents of the Piranshahr Intelligence Department, and later transferred to Naqadeh Prison following his initial interrogations.

Hengaw has learned that Mahmoudnejad’s case is currently being handled by Branch 9 of the Urmia Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office, under the supervision of the investigating judge of Branch 3.
The formal charges against him include “espionage through sharing information about military centers with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan” and “membership in the Democratic Party.”

Mahmoudnejad had previously been sentenced by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court to five years and six months in prison on charges of “membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan” and “propaganda against the state.”
He was arrested on January 2, 2024, following a summons by the Piranshahr Enforcement Branch, and later transferred to Naqadeh Central Prison to serve his sentence.

Before that, he had also been sentenced by Branch 102 of the Piranshahr Criminal Court (Second Division) to three months in prison and 30 lashes on charges of “disturbing public order through participation in protests.” The sentence was later commuted to a fine of eight million tomans.

Mahmoudnejad was again arrested by security forces on July 3, 2023, at his home and was temporarily released on bail of four billion tomans on July 27, 2023, pending trial.

Sadegh Mahmoudnejad, a married father of one from Jerran village near Piranshahr, was shot in the eye by security forces during protests on September 21, 2022, in Mamosta Hejar Square, Piranshahr, sustaining a severe injury.

Despite undergoing multiple surgeries at Khomeini Hospital in Urmia, Farabi Hospital in Tehran, and Imam Sajjad Hospital in Ramsar, his vision in the left eye has been reduced to about 20 percent.
