Hengaw – Wednesday, November 12, 2025

Iranian authorities have sentenced civil activist Mahnoush Abdollahi, a resident of Shiraz, to nine years in prison, six years of which have been suspended.

Based on information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Abdollahi, 42, was recently sentenced by the Fars Province Court of Appeals to two years in prison and four years suspended for “cultural, media, and promotional activities aimed at supporting, strengthening, and consolidating Israel,” one year in prison for “propaganda against the state,” and two years suspended for “insulting religious sanctities.”

This ruling followed Abdollahi’s appeal of the initial verdict, which was referred to the Fars Province Court of Appeals.

At first instance, Branch One of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court had sentenced Abdollahi to five years in prison for “cultural, media, and promotional activities aimed at supporting, strengthening, and consolidating the Israeli regime,” and one year in prison for “propaganda against the state.” In a separate part of the case, the Criminal Court imposed a two-year suspended sentence for “insulting religious sanctities.”

The verdict cites charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran.”

Abdollahi was arrested by Iranian security forces on July 1, 2025, and after 12 days in temporary detention, was released from Adelabad Prison in Shiraz on July 13 upon posting bail of two billion and five hundred million tomans.
