Woman murdered by cousin after rejecting marriage proposal as her child watched

Zeynab Hatami was killed in Yasuj, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, by her male cousin using a bladed weapon. The motive for the killing was her rejection of his marriage proposal, and the murder took place as her child witnessed the attack.

Based on information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the 37-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times and had her throat slit by her cousin on Monday, December 8, 2025, outside her home in the Akbarabad neighborhood of Boyer-Ahmad.

After committing the murder, the perpetrator turned himself in to the Criminal Investigation Department of Boyer-Ahmad and confessed to killing Hatami.

State-run media outlets reported only the arrest of the perpetrator, without mentioning the victim’s identity or the motive behind the killing.
