Hengaw – Saturday, January 17, 2026
Tiam (Mohammadreza) Kiani-Manesh, a 26-year-old Kurdish resident of Kermanshah, died during recent protests in the city after exposure to tear gas fired by Iranian government forces.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on Thursday, January 8, 2026, while Kiani-Manesh was present at protests in Kermanshah. He lost his life after being exposed to a large volume of tear gas deployed by government forces.
Sources familiar with the case told Hengaw that Kiani-Manesh’s body was buried on Friday, January 16, at Bagheh-ye Ferdows Cemetery in Kermanshah.
The source added that there were no signs of gunshot wounds or physical assault on his body, indicating that his death resulted from severe tear gas exposure. This account is consistent with field reports from several neighborhoods in Kermanshah, where the heavy and indiscriminate use of tear gas by repressive forces against protesters has been documented.
