Saeed Tarvand, Kurdish father of one, killed by Iranian forces in Abadan

Saeed Tarvand, a Kurdish resident originally from Mehran in Ilam Province, was killed during protests in the city of Abadan, in Khuzestan Province, after being shot directly by Iranian government forces.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Tarvand, 33, a father of one from the village of Chalab in Mehran County who was residing in Abadan, was killed on the evening of January 8, 2026, when government forces opened fire during demonstrations in the city.

He was employed as a contractor with the Abadan Oil Company. Sources said authorities withheld his body for five days and compelled his family to sign written pledges not to speak to the media before releasing it. Tarvand was laid to rest on January 13, 2026, in his hometown.
