Erfan Bozorgi killed by Iranian forces during protests in Marvdasht

Erfan Bozorgi, an arm-wrestling champion, a Lor, and a resident of Marvdasht in Fars Province, was killed after being shot directly by Iranian government forces during protests in the city. His death brings the number of people killed during the Marvdasht protests to three. Hengaw had previously reported the killing of two other residents during the same protests.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Bozorgi, who had been wounded by direct gunfire during public protests in Marvdasht, died in hospital on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Sources familiar with the case said the 34-year-old athlete was shot by government forces on Thursday, January 1, and died a day later as a result of his injuries.

Hengaw had earlier reported the killing of two other residents of Marvdasht, Mansour Mokhtari and Khodadad Shirvani, 33, a father of two, who were shot dead during the protests. Shirvani was struck in the abdomen by live fire from a Kalashnikov rifle.
