Woman fatally stabbed by husband in Sanandaj
Hengaw — Thursday, February 5, 2026
A 32-year-old pregnant woman from Sanandaj (Sine) was killed by her husband in a knife attack following a reported domestic dispute.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Maria Hosseinpanahi, a resident of Sanandaj, was fatally stabbed by her husband, identified as Shwan Naseri, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, during the late hours of the night. She sustained deep knife wounds and died around 4:00 a.m. at hospital despite surgery. Her unborn child also did not survive.
A source close to Maria Hosseinpanahi’s family said the killing followed a family argument. According to the source, after leaving the house during the dispute, the husband called Maria’s sister and threatened to kill her upon returning home. The sister immediately warned Maria and urged her to leave the house. Maria responded that such threats had been made repeatedly during previous arguments and said she did not have access to transportation or a ride service to escape.
The same source said Maria’s sister contacted the police and the local criminal investigation department to report the death threat. While she called Maria again and was still on the phone with her, she heard her screaming that her husband had entered the house with a knife. The call was then abruptly cut off.
Sources state that the attack occurred in the presence of the suspect’s mother. Following the incident, she suffered cardiac arrest and was taken to hospital.
Family members said Maria Hosseinpanahi had married about two months earlier and had recently begun her married life, in which she was deeply in love with her husband.
Sources have confirmed that the husband was arrested shortly after the killing by criminal investigation authorities in Sanandaj and later confessed to the murder.
