Femicide in Saravan — husband sets woman on fire after severe assault

A 33-year-old woman, Mahsa Brahui, lost her life after suffering severe injuries caused by a violent assault and extensive burns inflicted by her husband in Saravan.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Brahui, a mother of three, died on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at a hospital in Saravan, Sistan and Baluchestan province, after two days of hospitalization.

Hengaw has learned that the attack took place on Thursday evening at her home, when her husband, identified by the surname Dehwari, first severely beat her and attempted to strangle her. After she resisted, he poured gasoline on her and set her on fire.
Despite neighbors intervening and transferring her to a medical facility, she succumbed to her injuries due to the severity of the burns and delays in receiving treatment.

The suspect was reportedly arrested by police on Friday and is currently in detention. Mahsa Brahui was originally from the village of Keshtgan, in the Bampasht district, and had been living in the city of Saravan.
