Basij forces kill young conscript Amirmohammad Kazemi over music during Muharram

Iranian Basij forces shot and killed Amirmohammad Kazemi, a 19-year-old conscript from Negar in Bardsir County, Kerman Province, after confronting him and several of his friends over loud music during the Islamic month of Muharram.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Basij forces affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) accused Kazemi and his friends of failing to "respect the sanctity of Muharram" because they were playing loud music. The encounter quickly escalated, and Kazemi was shot by the forces. The incident took place on Friday, June 27, 2026.

Basij forces shot Kazemi in the head, killing him instantly, an informed source told Hengaw.

The 19-year-old was serving his compulsory military service and had returned to his hometown on leave. The incident occurred one day before his leave was due to end.
