Mir Mohammadreza Movahed and Yousef Salahshour imprisoned in Tabriz to serve sentences

Mir Mohammadreza Movahed and Yousef Salahshour, two Turkish residents of Tabriz, have been arrested and transferred to Tabriz Central Prison to serve their prison sentences.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Movahed was recently arrested and transferred to Tabriz Central Prison to serve a sentence of six years and four months.

Branch 2 of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court sentenced Movahed to three years and seven months in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security” and two years and nine months for “membership in the Demokratlar group,” bringing his total sentence to six years and four months.

He was previously arrested in September 2023 along with 12 others and released on bail after three months in detention.

Separately, Salahshour was arrested in recent days and transferred to Tabriz Prison to serve a one-year prison sentence.

He had previously been sentenced to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “disrupting public order.” As additional punishment, he was also banned from leaving the country and from engaging in activities on social media for two years.

Branch 26 of the East Azerbaijan Province Court of Appeals upheld the sentence in full, and his request to serve the sentence under electronic monitoring was denied.

Salahshour was arrested at his home in Tabriz on July 25, 2021, during gatherings held by a number of people in support of the demands of Arab residents of Khuzestan. He was released on bail after 20 days.
