Kurdish civil activist and Nojin Association member Mohammad Rezaei imprisoned to serve one-year sentence
Hengaw – Saturday, June 6, 2026
Mohammad Rezaei, a Kurdish civil activist from Dehgolan (Dewlan) and a member of the cultural and social NGO Nojin Association, has been arrested to begin serving a one-year prison sentence.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Rezaei was arrested on Saturday, June 6, 2026, after being summoned to the Enforcement of Judgments Office. He was subsequently transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison to serve a one-year discretionary prison sentence.
Rezaei had previously been sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Dehgolan on charges of “propaganda against the state.” His trial was held last year, and the verdict was formally communicated to him on Nov. 5, 2025.
He was initially arrested by Iranian security forces on July 12, 2025. After spending 55 days in detention and undergoing interrogation at an Intelligence Ministry detention facility in Sanandaj, he was temporarily released on bail of 800 million tomans pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings.
The Nojin Cultural and Social Association is one of the most prominent civil society organizations in Kurdistan, focusing on Kurdish-language education and cultural activities. Its members have repeatedly faced arrests, prosecutions and heavy security-related sentences by Iranian authorities in connection with their cultural and civil activism.
