Mohammadreza Morad Behrouzi arrested in Qazvin

Amid the continuing crackdown on civil activists and relatives of political prisoners in Iran, Mohammadreza Morad Behrouzi, a Lor resident of Qazvin, was arrested after being summoned to the prosecutor’s office and transferred to Choobindar Prison. His wife, Souri Babaei Chegini, is currently serving a prison sentence in Qazvin.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Morad Behrouzi was arrested on Saturday, June 13, 2026, after appearing before Branch 1 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Mohammadieh, a city in Qazvin Province. He was subsequently transferred to Chubin Dar Prison.
Morad Behrouzi and his imprisoned wife had recently received a joint summons to appear before the same judicial branch. In the new case against the couple, authorities have brought several security-related charges, including “sending videos, images, or information to foreign media outlets and social media networks in a manner contrary to national security” and “conducting intelligence-related activities in favor of Israel or other hostile groups and countries against national security.”
Status of Souri Babaei Chegini
Babaei Chegini was arrested by security forces in Qazvin on January 6, 2026, during the protests and was subsequently transferred to prison.
She was recently sentenced by Branch 2 of the Qazvin Revolutionary Court to two years in prison for “insulting the Supreme Leader” and one year for “propaganda against the state.” She was also handed a two-year travel ban.
