Death toll from IRGC strike on Komala base rises to 10 as Abubakr Houshangi dies of wounds

Abubakr Houshangi, a Peshmerga of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan from Marivan, has died from wounds sustained in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) missile and drone attack on the party's bases in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. His death brings the number of people killed in the cross-border attack to 10.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Houshangi, who was critically wounded during the attack on Friday, July 17, 2026, died on Tuesday, July 21, after several days of treatment at a medical center in Sulaymaniyah due to the severity of his injuries. The Komala Party announced his death in an official statement.

The IRGC launched five missiles and suicide drones at 6:44 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, from the heights near the village of Bileh'i in Javanrud County, Kermanshah Province, targeting Komala Party bases in the Zargwez (Zirgwez) area of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Nine Peshmerga were killed in the initial attack. Houshangi's death has raised the death toll to 10.

The victims have been identified as:

1. Abubakr Houshangi, from Marivan (died on July 21 from injuries sustained in the attack)

2. Siavan Nikkhah, 17, from Bukan (admissions volunteer)

3. Kasra Rahmannejad, 17, from Bukan (admissions volunteer)

4. Soroush Nasri, 17, from Marivan (admissions volunteer)

5. Sina Safari, 18, from Eslamabad-e Gharb (Shabad)

6. Yasin Kianpour, 22, from Shazand

7. Zakaria Faqih Hassan Agha, 23, from Bukan

8. Reza Sadeqi, 32, from Bukan

9. Ahmad Mahmoudi, 33, from Baneh

10. Farhad Qamari, 53, from Divandarreh
