Hengaw – Saturday, July 4, 2026

The Iranian Judiciary has sentenced Elham Zeraatpisheh, a lawyer and member of the Fars Province Bar Association, to six years in prison and additional restrictions, continuing its crackdown on lawyers and human rights defenders.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Shiraz recently sentenced Zeraatpisheh to five years in prison on the charge of "assembly and collusion against national security" and one year for "propaganda against the state."

The court also imposed supplementary penalties, including the revocation of her passport and a two-year travel ban. Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, which governs the aggregation of sentences, only the most severe sentence—five years in prison—will be enforced.

Iranian security forces arrested Zeraatpisheh on May 4, 2026, while she was carrying out her professional duties near the Shiraz Prosecutor's Office for the Enforcement of Judgments.

Zeraatpisheh has previously faced arrest, repeated summonses, and judicial and security pressure in connection with her legal representation of political and ideological cases, as well as her human rights activities.
