January protest detainee Shadi Shadman sentenced to five years in prison

Shadi (Khadijeh) Shadman, who was detained during January 2026 protests, has been sentenced to five years in prison. She is currently held in the women’s ward of Evin Prison in Tehran.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Shadman was sentenced by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, to five years’ imprisonment.
The sentence was issued in connection with Shadman’s participation in the January 2026 protests and was formally served on her in prison last week.
Shadman was arrested by Iranian security forces during the January protests and, after one month in detention, was transferred from a security detention facility in eastern Tehran to Evin Prison on January 29, 2026.
Shadman is the mother of a 9-year-old child and the family’s sole provider.
