Five Peshmergas of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan killed in clash with IRGC forces near Piranshahr

Five Peshmergas of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) were killed after falling into an ambush by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the mountainous border areas of Piranshahr. Their bodies are currently in the custody of Iranian government forces.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, a team of PDKI members was ambushed by forces from the IRGC’s Hamzeh Headquarters in the Qazqapan mountainous area of Piranshahr County on the evening of Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The five Peshmergas were killed during the ensuing ambush and heavy exchange of fire.
Hengaw has identified the five killed Peshmergas as Tavana Osmani, Mohammad Garguli, Karo Hormeziari, Fardin Chengizi, and Abdullah Haji Abdullah. All five were from Piranshahr.
Earlier today, the IRGC’s Hamzeh Headquarters issued an official statement confirming the clash and released photographs of the bodies of the five Peshmergas. However, the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) has not issued an official statement confirming or denying the details of the incident.
At the same time, another armed confrontation was reported in the border areas of Sardasht County. Hengaw is continuing to investigate the circumstances of that incident and verify available evidence and any reports of casualties.
