Wave of arrests in Oshnavieh ahead of general strike in Kurdistan

Iranian forces have carried out a wave of arrests targeting Kurdish residents of Oshnavieh (Shno) in the early hours of Tuesday, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the state killing of Jina Amini and a general strike called by the Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan. Hengaw has so far verified the identities of four detainees: Fakhraddin Ebrahimi, Soran Bayazidi, Rahim Arshadi, and Reza Dian.

According to reports received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Iranian forces raided homes across Oshnavieh in the early hours of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, arresting several young people and using violence during the raids.

Hengaw has so far verified the identities of four of those arrested. Three are business owners and shopkeepers in Oshnavieh: Soran Bayazidi, Rahim Arshadi, and Reza Dian. The fourth, Fakhraddin Ebrahimi, is a former political prisoner and the son of Mohieddin Ebrahimi, a Kurdish political prisoner who was previously executed.

The widespread preemptive arrests come amid efforts to intimidate the community and pressure business owners and shopkeepers to prevent participation in the general strike scheduled for Wednesday, September 16. In recent days, the Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan issued an official statement calling on people across Kurdistan to strike on Wednesday, marking the fourth anniversary of the state killing of Jina Amini.

Hengaw continues its efforts to verify the identities of the other detainees and obtain information about their whereabouts and health conditions.
