 Hengaw: Dozens of Kurdish citizens have committed suicide in various cities in Iranian Kurdistan over the past year, most of them due to family disputes, poverty and unemployment.

 According to statistics recorded by the Statistics and Documentation Data Center of Hengaw Human Rights Organization, at least 225 Kurdish citizens (103 women and 122 men) ended  their lives in different cities of Iranian Kurdistan during 2020, of which 45 cases  (20%)  were juveniles under 18 years old.

 The highest number of suicides was registered in Kurdistan (Sanandaj) province, which was 77 cases, and the reason for majority of suicides cases was 114  family problems and disputes.

 Over the past year, at least 3 girls ended their lives due to forced marriage. 

 Almost 70% of total cars  (156) committed suicide by hanging.

 

 Distribution by province: 

 Ilam Province: 36 cases (18 women and 18 men)

 Kermanshah province (Kermashan): 56 cases (24 women and 32 men)

 Kurdistan Province (Sanandaj): 77 case (33 women and 44  men)

 West Azerbaijan Province (Urmia): 56 case (28 women and 28 men)

 

 Reasons of suicide: 

 Family disputes: 114 cases (80women and 34 men)

 Poverty and Unemployment: 68 cases (8 women and 60 man)

 Unknown: 29 cases (7 women and 22 women )

 Mental Health problems: 10 cases (5 women and 5 men)

 Forced marriage: 3 cases (3 women)

 Suicide for political reasons in prison: 1 case (1 man)

 

The Method of Suicide:

 Hanging: 156  cases  (61 women and 95 men)

Overdose with pills : 33 cases (21 women and 12 men)

 Throwing themselves from a height: 10 cases (7 women and 3 men)

 Self-immolation: 16 cases (13 women and 3 men)

 Using shotguns : 8 cases (1 woman and 7 men)

 Suicide with Gas : 1 case (1 man)

Throwing themselves in river : 1 case (1 man)

 

 Suicide of 45 juveniles under 18 :

 According to statistics recorded by the Statistics and Documentation Data Center of Hengaw Human Rights Organization, at least 45 juveniles under the age of 18 ended their lives  in different cities of Iranian Kurdistan during 2020, 21 of whom were under the age of 15.

 According to the report, 26 girls and 19 boys under the age of 18 have ended their lives . 

 The highest number of juvenile suicides was recorded in West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province with 15 cases , 13 cases in Kurdistan provinces , 11 cases in Kermanshah , and 6 cases in Ilam provinces
